Graf Orlock (band)

Graf Orlock is a grindcore band from Los Angeles, California. The band took its name from the vampire Count Orlock from the film Nosferatu - A Symphony of Horror. The band consists of members of the hardcore punk bands Greyskull, Arctic Choke, Dangers, and Ghostlimb. Graf Orlock used audio clips and dialogue from science fiction films such as Terminator, Alien and RoboCop in all their songs. This mixture is also referred to jokingly as " Cinema Grind".

History

The band was formed after Jason Schmidt and Alan Hunter collaborated on a screenplay for a job at UCLA. It had the name of Destination Time Yesterday and sparked controversy at the school, since it referred to any source. Ultimately, the controversy arose when a rebellion, so that even a use of the Los Angeles Police Department was unavoidable.

Then Schmidt and Hunter were expelled from school. Together with bassist Sven Calhoun and singer Kalvin Kristoff they founded Graf Orlock and released EPs and split albums. In 2006 she started a trilogy, which was based on the controversial writer. Destination Time Yesterday was the first part of it. The EP Destination Time Tomorrow was the second part in 2007, which was the number 16 in Decibel magazine of the Top 40 of the year 2007. The last part of the trilogy Destination Time Today was released in 2009.

Currently the members of Graf Orlock work on her own label, which bears the name of Vitriol Records. Bands like Ghostlimb, Robotosaurus, Owen Hart, Dangers, and Totalt Jävla Mörker are there under contract.
