Gräfenberg Railway

As Gräfenbergbahn the railway line from Nuremberg Nordostbahnhof about Herold Mountain, Kalchreuth and Eschenau is called after Graefenberg. It is regarded as successful reference project for the revitalization of endangered decommissioning railway lines. It is integrated into the regional transport system and Nuremberg wrong there as line R21.

History

Precursor of the railway line was a bus line between Nuremberg Plaerrer on the Hall Place and Maxfeld to Heroldsberg, the first Bavarian Motor Omnibus lines -Gesellschaft mbH, which was registered on March 19, 1903 in the commercial register. This bus line was opened on 23 May 1903. In December 1903, the Company entered into a contract with the Post Office about the letter and parcel transport by Eschenau. The track construction began in 1904. On 1 February 1908, the traffic through the Bavarian State Railway of Nuremberg Northeast could be taken to herald mountain. After the route was extended to Eschenau on 1 May 1908 was connected to the already opened on November 12, 1886 secondary path Erlangen- Grafenberg, called the manatee. 1926 Breakpoint Brick was abandoned after extension of the tram in the present district of Nuremberg brick. Route description

The travel time for the entire single-track line is about 40 minutes. In Eschenau and Heroldsberg the trains meet. At peak times the maximum capacity of the track is reached with one train in one of the three sections. The first of the three trains runs in the afternoon only between Nuremberg and Eschenau, but this makes on this section only a " crooked " 31- minute intervals. The historic station building in Kalchreuth is a listed building and was restored in 2002. Today it is a small theater untergebracht.Der former engine shed in Eschenau has been renovated and is maintained by the association Eschenauer culture roundhouse " Secu ".
