Geography

Geographical location

The municipality is located approx ten kilometers north east of Nuremberg and southeast of Erlangen on a ridge of Sebalder Reich Forest. The place is also called cherry village because of the many cherry trees. Kalchreuth located on an elongated ridge of the Black Law ( Lias ), which forms part of the Frankish escarpment country. The Kalchreuth forest west and south of the village is a popular tourist area. The place name derives from the nature of the substrate ( Kalch = lime) and from originating from a clearing in the island kingdom Sebalder Forest ( Reuth = clearing).

The promising location and proximity to Nuremberg make the place especially on weekends and on summer evenings at a much visited tourist destination with a visit to the numerous restaurants.

History

The Barons Haller of Haller stone were from 1342 to 1850 in Kalchreuth resident and had to 1465 autocracy held in place before the city of Nuremberg took over the sovereignty. As part of the territory of the city of Nuremberg ( with partially Ansbach rights) Kalchreuth 1796 taken by Prussia in possession. In the Peace of Tilsit in 1807, it came with the Prussian principality of Brandenburg -Bayreuth under French administration. Kalchreuth came in today's region of Middle Franconia then with the Treaty of Paris in 1810 by France to the Kingdom of Bavaria. In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, was born with the congregation of 1818, the current community.

Incorporations

On 1 May 1978, until then independent municipality Röckenhof was incorporated.

The local council of Kalchreuth has 17 members including the mayor.

Coat of arms

The Coat of Arms description is: square; 1: In a red slanted fallen, black filled, silver rafters ( the so-called Haller- prong ); 2: Silver in a red -winning and reinforced black lion; 3: in a black silver cross of St. Andrew; 4: in red a silver cherry blossom with green sepals.

Twinning

Kalchreuth maintains since 1993 a partnership with La Chapelle -des- Fougeretz in France.

Culture and sights

Structures

The St. Andrew's Church and the adjacent Haller Castle ( a former water tower of the Nuremberg patrician family Haller ) form an important architectural ensemble.

Widely famous is the essentially late medieval interior of the 1471 Gothic- style church with the 1494 donated by the Haller family choir in which is located among other age cry from the workshop of teaching Albrecht Dürer. Equally famous is the nine -meter-high, carved out of sandstone tabernacle by Adam Kraft. The oldest and best-known artworks are the twelve Tonapostel above the choir stalls, which it received and are complete only in Kalchreuth.

As a modern-day monument to the holzverschalte station building is under protection. It is being restored since 2002. Since the end of 2005 it is again used regularly.

The Castle Restaurant, the Rudolf Schiestl company is located.

Nature

South of Kalchreuth local part Stettenberg are the two in the Räth sandstone formation located Stetten Berger Canyon and west of the Teufelsbadstube.

Regular events

The Kärwa takes place always on the second weekend in August. Every year at this time kindled the rivalry between the máslás Boum ( boys) from the inn Meisel and the Metzgersboum the Red Ox. A centuries- long tradition is ausgrom the Fässla. The idea is that the Boum from one side buried several Fässla at the Boum from the other side. The goal is to find one or more barrels of the other party. " The fair won" is the team which has more barrels found. If no barrel found, decides the number of buried drums. Date is the fair - Sunday, on which all the barrels to be excavated again.

On the first Sunday in July, the cherry parish fair will take place. The festival was launched in 1974 by the federal government as part of the conservation project to protect cherry orchards. From lunch there in the cherry meadows at the Erlanger Straße information and stalls around the topic of cherries and Nature ( protection). Entertainment is provided with cherry stone spitting, music, and actions such as sheep shearing.

Economy and infrastructure

Trade

In the community Kalchreuth (end of 2007 ) are currently just under 300 commercial establishments ( trade, commerce, industry and services ) active. The largest companies are characterized by medium. Among them is a tradition since 1620 Minderleinsmühle in the same district that establishes a special bakery gluten-free and lactose-free products for celiac sufferers.

Traffic

Kalchreuth is stop the single track Gräfenbergbahn (R21 ). Before the general renovation of the track in the 90s, there was a railway station with a second track for the oncoming traffic.
