Dormitz

Dormitz is a municipality in the district of Forchheim ( district government of Upper Franconia ) and the seat of the administrative community Dormitz, which also includes the communities Kleinsendelbach and Hetzles.

Geographical Location

Dormitz is located about 10 kilometers east of Erlangen and 15 kilometers north of Nuremberg.

History

Dormitz was first documented in the years 1142 and 1146 in two documents that have been referred to as a Siegfried " Sigefridus de dorenbenze " ( Middle High German for thorn meadow) or " Sigefrid de thorn benze ". The place belonged to the Imperial Diet of 1803 to the Bishopric of Bamberg. The Hohenzollern Principality of Bayreuth and the imperial city of Nuremberg had also possessions in the municipality. Since then, the site belongs to Bavaria.

In the last forty years, the population doubled by arrivals and Others from Erlangen.

Culture and sights

Structures

  • The Church of Our Lady was built in 1400 as a fortified church and its first documentary mention on 29 June 1416. The fortifications, however, were dismantled in the 19th century. The church contains a number of Gothic art.
