Bayerische Eisenbahngesellschaft

The Bavarian Railway mbH (BEG ) is the authority for the rail transport ( regional rail ) in Bavaria. The Munich-based company was founded in 1995 and is 100 percent owned by the Free State of Bavaria.

Tasks of the Bavarian Railway Company

When in 1996 the regionalization came into force, the order of railway passenger services was transferred to the respective provinces. In Bavaria, thus, the State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology was responsible for the regional rail transport, which then a wholly owned subsidiary, the Bavarian Railway Company (BEG ) founded. After a departmental reorganization in 2013 it became part of the State Ministry of the Interior, for construction and transport. The BEG is responsible for the planning, coordination, order and quality control of rail transport.

The BEG does not operate its own traffic and has no vehicles or routes, they merely entrusted with various railway companies - in most of the country is still the DB Regio AG - with the implementation of traffic. Thus was completed in 1996 with Deutsche Bahn, a traffic management contract, which was renewed in late 2004. This new contract will run for regional and local traffic until 2013, for the S -Bahn networks in Munich and Nuremberg until 2017.

The BEG also has the ability to write out individual lines or rail networks across Europe. In a competitive process the cheapest supplier is then determined under various applicants who awarded the contract to provide the tendered services then. The aim of the competition in regional rail transport is on the one hand to reduce the grants of the State to the railway companies and the other hand to be able to offer passengers more comfort with laid down in the tender conditions standards. While in other states already regularly carry out tender procedures, the competition ran in Bavaria initially very hesitant. The planned as a pilot project tender Bayerische Oberland Bahn also ended by the technical problems of novel multiple units in a disaster. Meanwhile, the competition is, however, also come in Bavaria in motion, during the term of the second traffic management contract with Deutsche Bahn will be advertised over 31 million kilometers, which corresponds to about one-third of the entire regional rail transport in Bavaria.

Organization

The Bavarian Railway Company is organized into four departments. In addition to the management, the 2013 Dr. Johann Niggl perceives with two assistants since 1 November, it is divided into the departments ' finances, competition, human resources, IT "," planning "," Quality management, marketing, press "and" infrastructure, passenger information, quality of stations. " Previously, from 2000 to 2013 Fritz Czeschka the management held.

Regionalization in Bavaria

After 1993 the Allgäu- Schwaben- clock one integral timetable in southwest Bavaria has been successfully tested, led the Bavarian Railway Company in 1996 nationwide Bavaria clock a. Since then, most of the railway lines at a regular hour, weaker requested routes at least in the two-hour clock, busy. The most important feature of Bavaria clock, the fixed cycle times, which is a train. At the start and end points of a route as well as at key interchange stations, the arrival and departure times of connecting trains were also coordinated in order to facilitate interchanges and shorten the residence time.

Between 1996 and 2005 the train services has been increased by 26 percent, the number of passengers increased in the same period by about 35 percent. By 2012, the number of passenger-kilometers increased by 70 percent, with an increase in the mileage by 44 percent.

Even after the 2006 adopted reduction of regionalization funds nationwide to 2.8 billion euros between 2007 and 2011, the offer was not trimmed. While most other federal states had to cut the deals partly strong or cancel all routes, Bavaria was the only state to expand its regional rail offer additionally. This was due mainly to the extensive competition during the term of the new traffic management contract. The number of stalled in the Bavarian rail transport train kilometers in 2012 reached a new record with more than 116 million per year. These were about 8 million more than in 2009.

Another success was the introduction of the Bayern tickets, a nationally valid ticket for the regional rail. Over the years numerous regional bus companies were included in the scope. Furthermore, the validity of the Bayern- Ticket has been extended to the transport authorities around the big cities of Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Würzburg, Aschaffenburg and Regensburg last. The Bayern Ticket is not valid for a day for five people a tour group, the inclusion of additional persons after departure is permitted an exchange of travelers though. In recent years, more division offers were created with the Bayern-Ticket Single, a special offer for solo travelers, and the Bayern-Ticket night for the Time 18:00 bis 6:00 clock. Furthermore, there is the Bayern- Ticket Single 1st class. It is valid analogy to the Bayern- Ticket Single for one person, but entitled to use the first class and costs € 31.
