Grand Duchess Kira Kirillovna of Russia

Kira Kirillovna Romanova, Kira Princess of Prussia, former Grand Duchess of Russia ( born May 9, 1909 in Paris, † September 8, 1967 in St. Briac- sur-mer ), was a great-granddaughter of the Russian Tsar Alexander II, Tsar grandniece Alexander III. and great-granddaughter of Queen Victoria.

Biography

Kira was the daughter of Grand Duke Kirill Vladimirovich Romanov (1876-1938) and his wife Princess Victoria Melita of Saxe -Coburg and Gotha (1876-1936), daughter of the Duke Alfred of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha and his wife Grand Duchess Maria Alexandrovna Romanova.

After the October Revolution, her father Cyril fled with his family only to Finland and then to Coburg; Finally, they went to France.

On May 4, 1938 Kira married in Potsdam Louis Ferdinand of Prussia ( 1907-1994 ), son of the former Crown Prince Wilhelm of Prussia and his wife Cecilie of Mecklenburg -Schwerin. Louis Ferdinand managed from 1940 to 1945 the private good Cadinen in West Prussia.

After the Second World War, the family first came to Bad Kissingen, until she moved in 1947 to Bremen, where she lived in the Wümmehof in Borg field from 1950.

The urns Princess Kira, Prince Louis Ferdinand and some of their children are buried in the Russian Orthodox Chapel of Resurrection of Hohenzollern Castle.

Honors

  • The Kira of Prussia - way in Bremen- Borg field, the Wümmehof was the family home since 1950, was named after her.
  • The Princess Kira of Prussia Foundation for the Promotion of socially disadvantaged children from Berlin received its name in 1954.
