The Grand Hotel Sopot is a hotel building in Sopot ( Sopot ), Poland. It has been operating since 2010 under the name " Sofitel Grand Sopot ".

History

The Grand Hotel Sopot was built as a casino hotel near the city center on the Baltic Sea beach, near the pier of Sopot in neo-baroque style from 1924 to 1927. Construction costs amounted at that time to 20 million Danziger Gulden.

In September 1939, Adolf Hitler was housed during a visit to the front with his entourage at the casino hotel. Towards the end of the war a military hospital was accommodated at the hotel.

From 1946 to 1951, the hotel became the property of the Gdynia - Ameryka on line Żeglugowe and was renamed " Grand Hotel ". After the merger with some other cruise lines in 1951, the hotel became the property of the Polish line Oceaniczne. New owner in 1954, the Orbis S. A. This company operates the hotel today on behalf of the Accor Group as Sofitel.

1965, the group had " Czerwone Gitary " one of the most popular Polish music groups, made ​​her stage debut at the hotel. From 11 to September 16, 1966 took place in building the " Pugwash " conference ( Disarmament and World Security, Especially in Europe) instead.

Before the political changes in Poland there should have been illegal casino in the hotel. In 1990, the third casino in Poland was officially established there.
