Grandcamp-Maisy

Grand -Maisy is located in Normandy in Calvados French village with 1740 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2011 ), which came into being on November 1, 1972 through the merger of the former independent municipalities Grand Camp -les-Bains and Maisy. Its inhabitants are called Grandcopais or Grand Camp Maiserais.

Grand Camp Maisy - Bessin is located in the English Channel, about nine kilometers north-east of Isigny -sur- Mer, about 30 kilometers northwest of Bayeux. There is the Museum of Rangers ( Ranger Museum), which commemorates the landing in Normandy on 6 June 1944, in particular the taking of the village in the municipality Pointe du Hoc.

Economy and infrastructure

The main economic activities in Grand -Maisy are tourism and fishing, particularly scallops. Today's fishing port was established in 1926, since 1975, there is also a marina.

The next national road is the National Route N 13 Paris - Cherbourg, which runs about six kilometers south of Grand -Maisy. A rail connection existed from 1888 to 1922.
