Grant Batty

Grant Bernard Batty ( born August 31, 1951 in Greytown, New Zealand ) is a former New Zealand rugby union player at the position of the outer three- quarter.

He went to the St Mary 's Convent School in Carterton and Greytown on the Public School to school before he moved to the Kuranui College, where he went through all the local rugby teams. After leaving school, he went to Wellington in 1970 to the Victoria University of Wellington for the Rugby team he played. In the same year he was appointed for the first time in the national team of the Wellington RFU. In addition, he also ran on for university selection. However, since he realized that he could not prevail at the Victoria University Old Boys, he joined the newly founded Association 1971 Wellington Marist St Pat's. There he played for the first time as the outer three-quarters. Previously, he was mainly used as a scrum half, but also as an inner three-quarters and goalkeeper. In addition, he lost his province Wellington in 1971 against the touring British and Irish Lions in New Zealand.

1972 Batty played for the New Zealand junior national team as an outer three-quarters of their tour in Australia. Because of his achievements, he was nominated in the same year in the squad of the New Zealand national team ( All Blacks ) and toured with her in Europe. There he played in all five internationals against England, France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Three of the games were won, whereas the All Blacks against Ireland 10:10 undecided played and lost to France.

With Wellington he won against the South Canterbury Ranfurly Shield the RFU in 1974. However, this could be defended successfully only in a game before they lost him in the same year at the Auckland RFU. Also succeeded Batty with his national team in 1974 Bledisloe Cup against the Australian national team ( Wallabies ) defend. He ran into two of the three matches, both of which were won.

The end of 1975 he moved to Tauranga to work as a Manager of the New Zealand bank PSIS. That's why he moved to Rugby Club Tauranga Old Boys and to its parent Provincial Association Bay of Plenty RU. In 1976, he was injured in a preseason game very difficult at the knee. Despite this injury, he toured with the All Blacks in South Africa and played in all four internationals against the South African national team ( Springboks ). The New Zealanders were able to win only one match and lost the other three. Because of his injury and the South Africa tour Batty Bay of plentys missed winning the newly introduced nationwide championship National Provincial Championship ( NPC).

When the British and Irish Lions toured New Zealand in 1977, he was in the starting lineup of the All Blacks for the first international match. In the game, he thought, after he intercepted a pass and sprinted 50m, the trial, which secured the 16:12 victory over the Lions. Although he should accrue in the second international match, he announced his resignation after the victory of the national team.

After his playing rugby career appeared in 1977 a biography of him. In later years he moved to Australia.
