Grant Island

The Grant Island (english Grant Iceland ) is an ice-covered island, which is about 32 kilometers long and 16 kilometers wide. Its area is 767.8 km ². It is located 8 kilometers east of the smaller Shepard Island off the coast of Marie Byrd Land and surrounded everywhere except in the north of the Getz Ice Shelf. The Grant Island was discovered on February 4, 1962 by staff of the icebreaker USS Glacier and mapped. It was named by the Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names after Commander EC Grant, who was at the time of discovery of the commander of the USS Glacier ..
