The Shepard Island or John Shepard Island (English Shepard Iceland ) is an island which is about 18 kilometers long and 8 kilometers west of Grant Island lies off the coast of Marie Byrd Land. It is covered with ice everywhere except on the north, seezugewandten coast and almost completely embedded in the Getz Ice Shelf. The island was discovered on an expedition of the United States Antarctic Service from 1939 to 1941 and named after John Shepard Jr., who had supported the expedition.
