Graspop Metal Meeting

Graspop Metal Meeting is a metal festival in Dessel Belgian place forty kilometers from Antwerp. It takes place every year on the last weekend in June. In 2008 the Festival officially counted 135,000 visitors so Graspop is one of the largest yet held metal festivals in Europe.

History

Graspop was founded in 1986 as a local pop festival. With the success in the years 1993 and 1994, where bands like Motörhead, Ramones, Paradise Lost, Stratovarius and Biohazard have occurred, it was decided now to use more metal than the main group. A short time later it was decided to rename the original name for Graspop Graspop Metal Meeting (GMM ). The first year under the name " Graspop Metal Meeting " was one of the festival 10,000 visitors and 15 bands. 2005, celebrated its tenth anniversary. The festival takes place in June usually on the last weekend. In 2005, the Festival was one of 80,000 visitors.
