Grauzone

Gray area was a Swiss music group of the early 1980s. She was one of the pioneers of the Neue Deutsche Welle ( NDW ). With their biggest hit polar bear of the group succeeded in gaining in the Austrian and German charts.

History

The end of 1979 Marco Repetto left (drums) and GT ( bass), the punk band Glueams to be ( guitar vocals) realign musically together with Martin Eicher. Martin / Tinu Glueams had mentally already helped her single. In early March 1980 she gave her first concert as a gray area at the club Spex in Berne. Martin's brother Stephan Eicher (guitar) and Claudine Chirac (saxophone ) supplemented the group temporarily in live appearances and recordings.

Gray area is best known for the two pieces of Polar Bear and space, which they released in 1980 for the LP Swiss Wave - The Album recordings. Polar Bear met the lifestyle of that time and got radio airplay in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. The song was released as a single and reached number 6 in the Austrian and # 12 in the German charts.

However, the group refused to commercial requirements and focused on film and studio work. In the winter of 1981 they returned to the Sunrise studios where the songs Moscow / A dance with death and I love they were taken. In July and August 1981, Martin and Stephan Eicher went with Marco Repetto again to the Sunrise studio and recorded their first and at the same time last studio album. In February 1982, Ingrid Berney joining gray area to support Martin and Stephan Eicher live. After a final studio session in which I and Thou was taken, the way the musician parted. After less than ten concerts, four singles and an album, the group disbanded in 1982.

GT and Marco Repetto regrouped with former Glueams guitarist Martin Pavlinec and drummer Dominique Uldry, first as Missing Link, then under the name of the Eiger North Face. GT moved then to the Futurism style similar action group Red Catholic Orthodox Jewish Chorus to the performance artist Edy Marconi, in the times also played Marco Repetto. Later named the group I Suonatori. Stephan Eicher started a successful solo career. 1988 published Martin Eicher EP Spellbound Lovers, a fancy, but unnoticed works. Marco Repetto worked up from 1989 in the techno and ambient scene as a DJ and musician (including remixes for mittageisen v2) a name.
