Periferies (regions):

The Patra -Athens- Thessaloniki - Evzoni motorway (acronym: Pathe - Greek ΠΑΘΕ ) runs over 730 km on the Greek mainland, including the Peloponnese from south to north and is the main traffic artery of Greece; they do consists of the A1 (A1 ) ( Athens -Thessaloniki - Evzoni ) and Highway 8 (A8 ) ( Patras - Corinth - Athens). In the non-upgraded to motorway sections, the relation PATHE by the National Road 1 (EO 1) and the National Highway 8 (EO 8a) is shown.

The route runs from the major port city of Patras on northern Peloponnese, across the Isthmus of Corinth to the capital Athens, Thessaloniki continue on past the village Evzoni, the transition point at the Greek- Macedonian border. Thessaloniki itself is served by a shuttle to the PATHE: a part of this feeder ( motorway intersection Axios to junction Kalochori ) is now part of Highway 2 (A2, Egnatia Odos ). The " PATHE " connects with their profile 11 prefectures ( counties ) and 14 cities, leads past nine ports and six airports, which gives it great importance for the Greek infrastructure.

The work is funded by the Greek State and EU resources from the ERDF (European Regional Development Fund ). The entire highway is to consist of two separate closed roadways, separated by a concrete barrier and sometimes crash barriers. Two to three lanes plus a hard shoulder in each direction are provided. Construction is expected to be completed on schedule in 2012 with the completion of the most technically demanding parts along the Tempe Valley Highway. For the yet to be constructed distance of about 200 km of tunnels must be invested in a total length of 23 km and two large bridges. Further expansion, are Corinth Rio ( north coast of Peloponnese) and Thermopylae Lamia Ikaria ( Malian Gulf). The section of the highway junction at Axios Thessaloniki to the junction Polykastro is implemented as a two-lane road with oncoming traffic, each with one shoulder. In this section, only the intersection of the PATHE with the National Road 2 (Greece ) is | National Road 2 (EO 2 ) in the form of a motorway junction running (2 separate carriageway with 3 lanes in each direction). The section from junction Polykastro up to the border crossing Evzoni is implemented as a highway with two separate carriageways, each with two lanes and a hard shoulder.
