Green European Foundation

The Green European Foundation ( GEF) is a political foundation at European level, which is funded by the European Parliament. The Foundation is closely linked to the European Green Party. However, it is an independent organization that sets independently thematic priorities. Seat of the GEF is Luxembourg. An office is in Brussels. The organization is trying to reach as many people in Europe. In 2011, the GEF has organized 41 events in 32 different cities in almost all European countries.

Objectives

The GEF was established in 2008. Following the example of many successful national green foundations and educational institutions, the GEF sees it as its task to enable European citizens to participate in European policy discussions. The GEF will thus promote the emergence of a pan-European political public and participatory European democracy. The GEF organized political debates and political education on key issues Green policies in Europe and works as a European network of national green foundations.

Structure

Three groups of actors send delegates to the GEF General Assembly, which meets twice a year to elect the board of the GEF.

  • National Green political foundations from all over Europe
  • The European Green Party
  • The Green Group in the European Parliament
