Heidi Hautala

Heidi Anneli Hautala ( born November 14, 1955 in Oulu) is a Finnish politician of the Green League. From 1991 to 1995 and from 2003 to 2009 she was a member of the Finnish Parliament from 1995 to 2003 and from 2009 to 2011 Member of the European Parliament. Most recently, she held the position of Finnish development aid minister between 2011 and 2013.

Biography

Heidi Hautala was born in 1955 as a subsidiary of Yrjö Sakari Hautala and his wife Margit Vappu Grönqvist Helena Oulu. In 1974 she founded the vegetarian restaurant Kasvis. She also worked as a freelance journalist and had columns in the magazines " Uuden Ajan Aura " (1976-1982) and "Suomi " (1982-1985). From 1980 to 1985 she worked as a teacher for vegetarian cooking. In 1988 she finished her horticultural studies at the University of Helsinki and received the Master 's degree in agriculture and forestry.

1985 Heidi Hautala was elected to the Helsinki City Council (until 1994). In 1987 she took over for four years the chair of her party, the Green League. From 1991 to 1995 she was a member of the Finnish Parliament. After Finland joined the EU in 1995, she moved to the European Parliament, where she was a member of the Greens / European Free Alliance. After the Greens could win a 2009 second seat in the European elections in Finland, Hautala returned as a second green next to Hassi back in the European Parliament. Here she was elected Chairman of the Subcommittee on Human Rights.
