Alexander Stubb

Cai -Göran Alexander Stubb (* April 1, 1968 in Helsinki) is a Finnish politician ( National Coalition Party ) and since June 22, 2011 Minister for Foreign Trade and Development.

Stubb visited in Daytona Beach (Florida, USA) and then the Gymnasiet Lärkan in Helsinki until 1986, the Mainland High School. After military service, he studied political science at Furman University in South Carolina (USA). In 1993 he completed his studies with the degree of Bachelor of Arts. At the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium ), he reached the 1995 completion of a Master of Arts in European Affairs. Between 1995 and 1997 he worked for the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs from 1997 to 1999 as a researcher for the Academy of Finland. Since 1997, he entered as a newspaper columnist in appearance. In 1999 he received his Doctor of Philosophy ( Ph.D.) at the London School of Economics.

After receiving his doctorate Stubb was especially active in European politics. From 2004 to 2008 he was a member of the European Parliament. On 1 April 2008 he was nominated as the new foreign minister in the cabinet of Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen, after his predecessor Ilkka Kanerva was forced to resign because of personal failings. On April 4, finally Stubb was sworn into his new office. After the 2011 elections, he became Minister for Foreign Trade and Development in the Cabinet Katainen.

Stubb 's has been married to the British lawyer Suzanne Innes - Stubb with her two children and lives with his family in Espoo. He is the son of a Finnish-speaking mother and the Finland-Swedish former ice hockey player Goran Stubb, who came from Karelia. Because of this, Stubb grew up bilingual, he also speaks fluent English, French and German. In his spare time he takes more part in marathon and triathlon races and has also completed an Ironman triathlon successfully. In 2009 he published the book with Ilkka Järvimäki miehen treenikirja, a guide for men for the execution and motivation of various sports and their scheduling in the daily life.
