The Nordica is a Finnish multipurpose icebreakers Fennica class. In addition to use as an icebreaker, the ship is also used as an offshore multi-purpose vessel for the supply of offshore facilities. The sister ship called Fennica.

History

Technology and equipment

The 116 m long Nordica has a diesel-electric drive with a maximum drive power of the electric motors that drive the ship about two propeller gondolas with fixed pitch propellers, 15000 kW. Thus, the ship has a maximum speed of 16.50 knots. The electricity for the drive motors via four Wärtsilä diesel engines. Two of them have each 6,000 kW, the other two over 4,500 kW. The ship has three bow thrusters with controllable pitch propellers.

The ship can be fitted in front of the superstructure with a helideck. Behind the superstructure is an approximately 1,100 -square-foot, open working deck. This can be loaded with up to 10 t / m². On the starboard side here is a working crane with two hoists. The capacity of the main hoist is 160 t at 9 m range and a further 30 t at 32 m range. The second elevator 80 can t at 9 m range and 32 t lift at 32 m range. A second crane with a lifting capacity of 5 tons at 15 m range can be retrofitted if required. In addition, the ship can be equipped with a rear gallows, which can be up to 120 t lift.
