Ecolo

Ecolo ( Écologistes confédérés pour l' organization de Luttes original ) is a Francophone political party in Belgium with ecological principles, which competes in Wallonia and Brussels. Completed in 1980, it was among the first green of the world, who entered a national parliament. The Flemish sister party called Groen! .

History

The Greens were the surprise winners of the elections of 13 June 1999, which clearly their status in a majority of the electoral cantons increased (from 5-10 % to 15-20 %). You founded this success with the emotional crisis that had arisen with the Dutroux affair and the dioxin crisis.

The Liberals and the Socialists, they invited for the legislative period of 1999-2003 for a share in the government. In this completely new Coalition ( " Rainbow Coalition " ) received Ecolo the post of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Transport and Transport ( Isabelle Durant ) and the post of Secretary of State for Energy ( with Olivier Deleuze ) at the federal level.

In the municipal and regional elections of October 2000 Ecolo repeated their good results.

Ecolo remained in place in the government until May 5, 2003, when Isabelle Durant refused the signature of an agreement and its functions was dismissed by Prime Minister Guy Verhofstadt, who allocated it to another Minister ( Laurette Onkelinx ). Therefore, Isabelle Durant and Olivier Deleuze resigned from their positions.

The elections of May 18, 2003 bestowed Ecolo heavy losses (3.2 % of the vote ), a result obtained by subsequent surveys (December 2003) was confirmed. In the elections on 10 June 2007, it almost doubled its profit to a current 5.98% and are now eight instead of four deputies.
