History

Owner of Green Bank House was Robert Allason. This was the grandson of the farmer whose family for generations farmed the land around the present Greenbank House. He learned the baker's trade in the southern parts of the city of Glasgow, it has successfully established itself as a dealer and finally one of the most successful people in the British trade with the colonies in North America and the Caribbean this time. Allason acquired the extensive grounds, which began in 1764 with the construction of Greenbank House. As an architect, probably Allan Dreghorn was responsible for the planning, but still died the same year. The following year the villa was completed. After Allasons business deteriorated in the wake of the American War of Independence, the building changed hands several times and owners finally came in 1962 in the possession of W. P. Blyth, in 1976 the National Trust for Scotland over appropriated it.

While on about an acre of land formerly of trees and crops were planted outside of Greenbank House, comes today found on such park like setting from the 20th century and was created under the direction of Blyth family.
