Greenwich Street

The Greenwich Street is a street in the south of New York City's district of Manhattan, USA.

Location and History

The Greenwich Street is located in downtown Manhattan. It extends between the intersection of Ninth Avenue and Gansevoort Street in the Meatpacking District in the north and the Battery Park in the south.

Between Vesey Street and Liberty Street is interrupted by the World Trade Center site. As part of the reconstruction of the World Trade Center site, the road should be able to run through this section again without interruption. Sometimes this road is confused with the Greenwich Avenue. However, some of the new skyscrapers at the World Trade Center have house numbers of Greenwich Street.

North Spring Street, the Greenwich Street runs one-way street heading north and south of Spring Street as a one-way street heading south. The major cross streets are crossing the Greenwich Street ( north to south ): Christopher Street, Houston Street, Canal Street and Chambers Street.

The Greenwich Street through some neighborhoods like the Meatpacking District, the West Village, Hudson Square and Tribeca.

Transport

The Greenwich Street was one of the first streets, in the late 1860s elevated trains were tested. Here reversed the IRT Ninth Avenue Line, which was demolished in the 1940s.

The IRT Broadway - Seventh Avenue Line runs from the Vesey Street at Greenwich Street to its southern end.

The stops Cortlandt Street ( IRT Broadway - Seventh Avenue Line) and Rector Street (IRT Broadway - Seventh Avenue Line) open directly the Greenwich Street. Other stops on the New York subway can be found in the vicinity of Greenwich Street.

The World Trade Center Transportation Hub is currently being built between Greenwich Street and Church Street to five subway stations on the World Trade Center site to connect with each other.

The M11 bus runs north on Greenwich Street from the Bethune Street to Gansevoort Street. The M8 bus crosses the Greenwich Street in both directions: at the level of Christopher Street in a westerly direction and at the height of West 10th Street in an easterly direction. Similarly, crosses the M21 bus, the Greenwich Street in both directions. Towards the west at the height of Houston Street and east on the level of the Spring Street.
