Gregory " Greg" Alan Maddux ( born April 14, 1966 in San Angelo, Texas ) is a former American professional baseball pitcher.

Biography

He is considered one of the best pitchers of all time in the history of Major League Baseball. He joined the group of 22 pitchers who were allowed to celebrate at least 300 victories in the history of MLB. This success must today be counted great because the pitcher can attend fewer games today than in the past. One reason for this is, for example, the five -man rotation. Finally, on 26 July 2005, he celebrated his 3000th strikeout. Only Maddux and Ferguson Jenkins 3000 strikeouts and less than 1000 Walks in their account.

Maddux was selected in the second round of 1984 draft by the Chicago Cubs. His debut celebrated in September 1986. During this time he was the youngest player in the entire league. After 7 years with the Cubs Maddux in 1993 signed with the Atlanta Braves as a free agent. During this time, he threw in four World Series and posted a title win (1995). He played until 2003 in Atlanta, before he in 2004 as a free agent to his original club moved back to the Cubs.

Another record was set in 2005. Maddux was the first pitcher who could record at least 15 wins in 17 subsequent seasons. Cy Young, a legend among Baseballpitchern, held the previous record with 15 consecutive seasons.

In the 1990s he played side by side with John Smoltz and Tom Glavine, who formed one of the best pitching trios in the history of the sport. He has an ERA of 3.22 in 190 innings in the playoffs.
