- In the doctrine of the church modes the final note of a melody (also clavis finalis, vox finalis, sedes finalis or finis called ). Together with tenor ambitus and it is one of the structure-forming elements of the medieval unanimity. The finale of the regular eight ( old ) church modes are: d ( Doric and hypodorisch ), e ( Phrygian and hypophrygisch ), f ( lydian and hypolydisch ), g ( Mixolydian and hypomixolydisch ). They form a diatonic tetrachord, finalium the Tetrachordum.
