Gregory of Rimini

Gregory of Rimini ( also de Arimino, Ariminensis, Lucerna splendens, Doctor acutus, Doctor authenticus ) (* 1300 in Rimini, † in Vienna late in 1358 ) was a philosopher and theologian and member of the Augustinian Hermits.

Life

He studied after undergraduate education in Paris ( 1322 / 23-1328 / 29). As a teacher he worked in Bologna ( attested 1332, 1333, 1337), probably in Padua, Perugia and was probably 1340-1342 to Paris, where he developed his Sentences commentary and probably 1343/44 recited. In 1345 he earned the degree of theological Magister. 1346 he was in Rimini, 1347 in Padua until 1351, after which sent him to the Basel General Chapter of the newly established study center in Rimini. In 1357 he was Superior General of the Augustinians as the successor of Thomas of Strasbourg.

Work

His philosophical and theological works combine ideas of William of Ockham and Peter's Aureoli. In addition to his main work, the Sentences commentary, Gregor writing comments and letters written as general of the order as well as several treatises, including De usura and an extract from the Sentences commentary De intensione et remissione formarum corporalium.
