Grete Berger

Grete Berger (born 11 February 1883 in Hunters Village, Austrian Silesia, † 20th century ) was an Austrian actress.

Life

Grete Berger received her training in drama teacher Rosa Roth in Vienna. Her stage debut was on September 1, 1903 in Berlin at the New and Little Theatre. In 1904 she was engaged at the German theater under Max Reinhardt.

Here she took part in youthful character roles. In 1911 she undertook along with Reinhardt ensemble performances of the play Oedipus the King guest tours to Prague and St. Petersburg. Among her roles in Berlin belonged Puck in A Midsummer Night's Dream, the title role of Hugo von Hofmannsthal's Elektra, Désirée in Richard Beer-Hofmann The Count of Charolais, Marikke in Hermann Sudermann bonfires and Rachel in The Jewess of Toledo.

1913 and 1914 she stood for several silent films before the camera and became known as the female lead in the classic The Student of Prague. Then she turned back to his stage and played for, among others, in 1928 the Nurse in a production of Romeo and Juliet. In the film she was in the 20s in some major productions only very small roles.
