The Grimmig is an isolated mountain range between the Enns Valley and the Salzkammergut, which is counted to the Dachstein Mountains.

The Grimmig is located east of the Dachstein Massif and of its eastern border, the Kemet Mountains, separated by the Salza gorge. It consists mainly of but Dachstein limestone and represents a broken floe of the Dachstein Stocks dar.

Because of his imposing appearance he has long been described as the highest mountain in Styria, Mons Styriae altissimus. A special presentation on the Grimmig you could visit in Trautenfels Castle 2011/2012.

Southwest of the main summit is the Grimmingtor, an approximately 50 m high and 15 m wide wall recess which is terminated by a 10 m thick rock overhang. In the east it is bounded by a large rocky ridge, which gives it a torähnliches appearance with appropriate lighting. According to legend, are behind this "gateway " hide valuable riches.

The mountain is a popular attraction for mountaineers and climbers.

The Grimmig is used as survey marks for the land surveying very early. In 1822 built Lieutenant Carl Baron Simbschen a wooden survey marks at the top and a stone hut as a shelter just below.

  • Grimminghütte ( 966 feet): The only lodge in this mountain range is located in the valley and is surrounded by Traut rock out in about an hour.
  • North of the Grimmig Summit is since 1949 a bivouac, which can be used as an emergency shelter in bad weather.

Increases

  • From Trautenfels through the snow pit ( South-East): Favored rise above the Grimminghütte. This route was first climbed in 1888 by Heinrich Hess.
  • From Kulm (North West): starting behind the ski jump, by the Gipfelkar in which the bivouac is located.
  • From Trautenfels across chest and Multereck: This is first the Eastern pre-summit exceeds ( 2,176 m ) before you get to the main summit.
  • From Niederstuttern on the Grimminghütte, then left on the south-east or right box and Multereck to the summit.
