Grisedale Tarn

Legendary repository of the Crown of King Dunmail

The Grisedale Tarn (not to be confused with the Grizedale Tarn Grizedale Forest ) is a mountain lake in the Lake District, Cumbria, England. The Tarn is located between the Dolly Wagon Pike in the north and in the south of Fairfield. The lake is 538 meters high and has a depth of about 34 meters. The Grisedale Beck is the outflow of Grisedale Tarn.

The lake has brook trout, eel and perch.

History

According to legend, the crown of King Dunmail is in this lake.

At the outflow of Lake of the Brother's Parting Stone marks the place where William Wordsworth and his brother John saw the last time before the latter went down in 1805 as commander of the ship Earl of Abergavenny.
