Grono is a municipality in the district of the district Roveredo Moesa in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland.

Geography

Grono is on the right side of the river Moësa. Approximately 60 % of the municipal area consists of forest and woody plants, 30% from non-productive area. Of the usable land each fall around 5% to the settlement as to the agricultural sector, especially in viticulture.

Grono borders the municipalities Roveredo, Castaneda, Verdabbio, Leggia and Cama and at one point at Santa Maria in Calanca. In the East, the community is bordered by Italy towards Lake Como.

Climate

On 11 August 2003, the highest ever temperature of Switzerland has been registered since measurements began in Grono during the heat wave in Europe with 41.5 ° C. The Italian-speaking portion makes up 85.1 %. The second most common language is German with 6.1 %, followed by Serbo-Croatian 2.2%. The proportion of foreigners is 25.1 %.

Economy

Almost half of the population works independently. Approximately one half of the population is engaged in secondary and tertiary sectors. Until the early 1970s was one of the smallest breweries in Grono Switzerland. The building of the Birreria Tognola is well preserved, today the Graubünden cantonal bank is housed therein.
