Groombridge

Groombridge is a village of about 1,600 people. It is on the border between Kent and eastern Sussex in England. The nearest large town is Tunbridge Wells, about 7.2 km away.

The main part of the village ( " New Groombridge " ) lies in the civil parish of Withyham, which forms a part of the Wealden district of eastern Sussex. In New Groombridge an elementary school stands the Church of St. Thomas, part of the Diocese of Chichester. It has a general store, a bakery, a post office, a hairdresser, a car agency and an inn.

The oldest part of the village ( " Old Groombridge " ) is within the civil parish of Speldhurst, the part of Tunbridge Wells - forms the borough of Kent. Old Groombridge has the church of St. John, which is a part of the Diocese of Rochester. It also has the Crown Inn - Inn, but no shops.

History

Groombridge Place is a popular visitor attraction, it boasts an impressive 700 -year history, starting in 1239. Groombridge Place has been by some of the most distinguished families of Kent, including the de Cobham and Mr. Richard Waller, ancestors of the poet Edmund Waller and Tim Waller, co-founder of the house of looters East Grinstead hash, as well as Winston Churchill owned.

Hospital

Burrswood is an independent non-surgical hospital that treats the whole person in a Christian environment. Specialties include palliative and respite - care, post surgical care, rehabilitation and physiotherapy. Burrswood was founded in 1948, as Dorothy Kerin began her healing ministry. 2008 celebrated its sixty -year anniversary, and a memorial service was held in Rochester Cathedral. Burrswood is in the village of Groombridge.

Railway

Groombridge stood on the Three Bridges to Tunbridge Wells Central Line (Main line). Other stations included: Rowfant, Grange Road, East Grinstead, Forest Row, Withyham, High Rocks, Tunbridge Wells Tunbridge Wells West and Central. The line was finally closed on July 6, 1985.

Groombridge is now connected to the Spa Valley Railway and is currently the southern terminus of the line. The Groombridge current station is on the east side of the station, and a joint ticket for the railway and the Groombridge Place is available.
