Großer Brombachsee

The Great Brombachsee is an artificial lake in Bavaria ( Middle Franconia ) ( Germany ). It is the largest reservoir of the Franconian Lake District and is adjacent to the flood protection in the Altmühltal especially the water regulation for the rain poor northern Bavaria. For this, the lake over the Continental Divide of time can be filled from the Altmühltherme over the Altmuehlsee to the dam target of 410.5 m. About smaller tributaries water can then be discharged into the influent to the Main Regnitz to the lowering limit of 403.5 m. Geography

The Great Brombachsee is located 37 km ( straight line ) south of Nuremberg, just a little east of Gunzenhausen and about between Absberg and Plein field. The largest part of the lake belongs to the district of White Castle -Gunzenhausen, only a small part of the northern shore of the lake is located in the district of Roth. It is located in a valley to the east towards opening and is surrounded by forests. Its maximum depth is 32.5 meters and has a shoreline length of 17.5 km.

The reservoir is located in the arid Middle Franconia, and together with other lakes part of the Franconian Lake District.

In the west it borders directly on the higher-lying little Brombachsee ( Brombachvorsperre ) and on the northwest by the also higher lying Igelsbachsee ( Igelsbachvorsperre ). Two long dikes of 18 and 16 m separating the two pre Perren from the Grand Brombachsee itself

For these pre- locking the lake is filled, especially from the small Brombachsee, which in turn gets its water from the Altmühltherme About Head. Seeabfluss is the Brombach to the east, leaving the lake at the foot of his dam and a few kilometers further east opens at Plein field in the Swabian Rezat.

Dam

The Great Brombachsee is a dam, as the shut-off is an earth dam of 1.7 km in length with a core inner seal. Recreational

The lake along with the entire Frankish lake district is an important recreational area for the metropolitan area of Nuremberg. Among the things to do include water sports including swimming, sailing, windsurfing, kitesurfing and tours by Trimaran MS Brombachsee.

The water sports center of the Friedrich -Alexander -University Erlangen -Nuremberg, which was taken in July 2003 in operation, located at the southern end of the dam at the Great Brombachsee and provides for members of the university sailing courses with dinghies or catamarans, kayaking and triathlon.

The water quality is in the summer often hampered by the algae.

Groundwater level

By the lake, the water table rose in the environment, so many homes on the neighboring villages now water leaks have occurred. The Water Authority took action and put drainage and deep wells at.
