Großer Winterberg (Harz)

The Great Winterberg is a 906.4 m above sea level. NN high side of the knoll located in the neighboring Lower Saxony worm mountain in the Harz mountain range ( Upper Harz ) in the city of Wernigerode in the Harz district, Saxony- Anhalt.

Geographical location

The Great Winterberg is located in the Harz Nature Park / Saxony- Anhalt Harz National Park, just northeast of the border of Lower Saxony and 2.5 km west-southwest of the village belonging to Wernigerode Schierke. To the north- north-west of its landscape falls in the valley of the Cold Bode, rises beyond the Brocken ( 1141.1 m), the western Königsberg ( 1033.5 m) and the eastern Heinrichshöhe (approx. 1045 m) are upstream. Northeast to east-northeast rises beyond the situated on the Cold Bode Schierke the Hohnekamm ( 900.6 m; Hohneklippen with ). To the southeast of Little Winterberg closes at ( 837 m). In the southwest passes over the countryside to the nearby side of the frontier worm mountain.

Winter sports area

As part of the in the planning concept worm mountain in 2015 is to be built in the area between Great and Small Winterberg and worm mountain towards the village Schierke a ski lift or gondola with four new departures.
