Grote Kerk, Haarlem

The Great or St. Bavo Church (Dutch Grote of Sint- Bavokerk ) is a three-aisled cruciform church, built in 1370-1520. You is the largest church in the Dutch city of Haarlem. It was originally built in the 15th century as Catholic cathedral in the Gothic style. Patron saint of the church is the Holy Bavo. 1578 the Reformation was introduced to the Church, it is now Evangelical Uniate parish church. The building was declared a Rijksmonument.

The central tower is static reasons a covered with lead shingles wooden tower. The due to overloading of the columns worn 1514-1517 stone tower adorns the beacon eaters church today.

By the year 1831 funerals were held in the church. Among other things, the eminent Dutch painter Frans Hals is buried here.

Organ

The organ of Christian Müller was completed in 1738; 1740 to Georg Friedrich Händel have played on it. In 1766, the ten year old Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart played it. It has 62 registers and has the following disposition:

  • Couplers: 2 manuaalkoppels (II / I, III / I), 3 pedaalkoppels (I / P, II / P III / P).
