Group 9 element

As cobalt - group of the periodic system, the elements of group 9 are referred to collectively in accordance with the IUPAC Nomenclature of inorganic.

The group contains the elements cobalt, rhodium, iridium and Meitnerium. They are all heavy metals.

Meitnerium also belongs to the group of Transuranium Elements, a group name is not given in the nomenclature.

In older versions of the periodic system, they were expected to Group VIIIA (IUPAC 1970) or VIIIB ( Demming 1923). To avoid confusion, these older definitions should no longer be used.

Together with the platinum group metals ruthenium, rhodium, palladium, osmium, iridium and platinum, the three metals iron, cobalt and nickel are also counted to nine- iron, platinum group elements.
