Grupo Bimbo

Grupo Bimbo is one of the world's largest food producer headquartered in Mexico City. The company is listed on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores in Índice de Precios y Cotizaciones (IPC).

History

On July 4, 1945, the first formal establishment, on 2 December of the same year began Panificación Bimbo, SA, its activities in Mexico City with 34 employees.

In December 1956, a second headquarters was opened in Mexico's second largest conurbation Guadalajara under the name Bimbo de Occidente. Another production site followed in 1960 in Mexico's third largest metropolitan area of Monterrey under the name Bimbo del Norte.

1972 in Azcapotzalcos, Mexico City, opened the largest bread factory in Latin America, which ranks among the top ten worldwide.

Since 1980, the shares of Grupo Bimbo on the Mexican Stock Exchange ( Bolsa Mexicana de Valores ) are traded.

With the establishment of Bimbo Centro América in Guatemala in 1989, the Mexican baked goods producer first entered international terrain. Followed in 1991 with the founding of the Organización Latinoamericana ( OLA ), the snap to South America in 1998 with the acquisition of leading Texas bread factory Mrs. Baird in Fort Worth expansion into the United States.

In 2002 the group was restructured and all companies organized into four divisions:

  • Bimbo, S. A. combines the bakery production in Mexico and Central America;
  • Barcel, S. A. includes the offices and trade Botanas (small, savory appetizers ) and Ricolino (chocolate );
  • Bimbo Bakeries USA ( BBU) provides the market in the U.S.;
  • Organización Latinoamericana ( OLA ) supplies the market in South America.

Presence

Grupo Bimbo is the world's leading baked goods company. It has 105 plants in 18 countries in the Americas, Europe and Asia. Its main products include bread, rolls, cookies, pies, packaged goods, tortillas, snacks and pastries.

In many Latin American countries, such as in Mexico, Grupo Bimbo is the largest food producer and the undisputed leader of the local bakery production. Net sales amounted in 2009 to over 8.6 billion U.S. dollars.

Sponsoring

Especially in football, the company is active as a sponsor. So the Bimbo logo can be found on the jerseys of the Mexican team Deportivo Guadalajara, Monterrey and Club America, and on the kits of Philadelphia Union from the USA and Deportivo Saprissa of Costa Rica. In addition, Grupo Bimbo is a financial supporter and namesake of the South American soccer tournament Copa Bimbo.
