The rural community Grýtubakki ( Isl Grýtubakkahreppur ) is located in the north of Iceland in the region Norðurland eystra. On 1 January 2009 it had 338 inhabitants. Center of the municipality is Grenivík 250 inhabitants.
Geography
The municipality is located on the eastern shore of the Eyjafjörður east of the island Hrísey and north of Akureyri on the Flateyjarskagi Peninsula. To the south lies the community Svalbarðseyri, east Þingeyjarsveit.
The Fnjóská overcomes the transverse valley Dalsmynni and ends in Höfðahverfi in Eyjafjörður.
North of the village lies the mountain Grenivík Kaldbakur.
In the north- east of the township the Gilsá empties into the Hvalvatnsfjörður to the east of the Þorgeirsfjörður.
History
One of incorporation in the nearby town of Akureyri has been issued in a referendum on October 8, 2005, a cancellation.
