Grzegorz Proksa

Grzegorz Proksa ( born November 23, 1984 in Mysłowice, Poland) is a Polish professional boxer and former two-time European champion of the EBU middleweight.

Amateur career

Proksa began in 1999 with the sport of boxing and won in the same year the national tournament Dni Rudy Śląskiej (weight class 51 kg ). In 2000 he won the tournaments Czarne Diamenty and Ciupagę góralska (both in the Gk. 60 kg). He was Polish junior champion at lightweight in 2001 and again won the tournament Czarne Diamenty.

In 2002, at the Julius Torma he participated tournament. This is an international junior tournament, which is held annually in the Czech capital Prague. There he defeated in the finals of the welterweight semi- Czech local heroes Pavel Dočkal and won the gold medal. He was also runner-up in 2002 Polish Junior in the light welterweight. In October 2003 he launched the also staged in the Czech Republic Vaclav Prochazka Tournament and won the silver medal in the light welterweight. He was defeated in the finals while the Russian runner Ajdin Gasanov on points.

Also in 2003, he became Polish Junior Champion and won the silver medal at the U-19 European Championship in Warsaw. Both successes he achieved in the light welterweight. In 2004 he was Polish welterweight champion and the start of 2005 turned professional.

According to his website, his amateur balance sheet amounted to 130 wins, ten losses and three draws.

Professional career

His first prizefighting he denied on March 5, 2005 in Las Vegas against the Americans Adam Capo and won by TKO in the first round. After four more victories, he won by t.K.o. in round 7 against the undefeated Belgium Kenneth Van Eesvelde, the Junior World Championship title the WBC and IBF middleweight. These he defended against Ignacio Fraga and Vitalie Mirza. He also defeated in a non-title fights three other opponents, including the former IBO champion Steve Conway.

On 12 October 2007 he defeated Gotthard Hinteregger technical knockout in the second round. After seven more victories he pushed on February 12, 2010, at the EU - championship of the EBU. He defeated his British opponent Tyan Booth technical knockout in round five. Proksa had so celebrated its 20th win in the 20th fight, of which the 13th time prematurely. He boxed 15 times against opponents with a positive martial balance.

After five more knockout wins in a row, he earned the right to fight for the vacant European title of the EBU middleweight. As an opponent of former IBF world champion Sebastian Sylvester ( 34-4-1 ) was determined, who had lost his world title five months earlier, just after points to Daniel Geale. On October 1, 2011 Proksa outclassed his opponent completely and won early because of the strongly drawn Sylvester after the third round did not come out of his corner and the fight was therefore terminated in favor Proksas. Already in his first title defense, he lost his British title against Kerry Hope on March 17, 2012 in Sheffield after a controversial points defeat.
