Guadarrama-Tunnel

The Guadarrama Tunnel (Spanish: Tunel de Guadarrama ) is used for high-speed line between Madrid and Valladolid to the lower crossing of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains in the Iberian vagina. The construction of the tunnel started in 2002, the plant was commissioned in December 2007. He is excluded with over 28 km of the longest railway tunnel in Spain and currently the fourth longest in the world, subway tunnels.

Course

The south portal is located in Miraflores de la Sierra, about 50 km north of Madrid, 998 meters above sea level. From there, the tunnel increases with 15 ‰ at a summit altitude of 1200 m and then falls with 9 ‰ at 1114 m at the northern portal near Segovia. The largest coverage is achieved with 992 m below the 2,429 m high summit of Peñalara.

Each of the two classification tracks runs in a separate tunnel with 9.45 m outer diameter and 8.50 m inside diameter. At 30 m center distance west tube 28407.70 m and the east tunnel is 28418.66 m long. Every 250 m were laid connecting tunnels between the tunnel tubes. These can be ventilated and are needed as emergency rooms.

History

A total of four tunnel boring machines were from October 2002 of the portals in use, two of the competing German company Herrenknecht and Wirth. There were four million cubic meters of rock, mainly granite erupted.

The east tunnel was beaten on 5 May 2005. The final breakdown was made on 1 June 2005.

The construction costs amounted to 1.219 billion euros and were carried to 70 % by the European Union.
