Gualfardo of Verona

Wolfhard of Augsburg, Latin Gualfardus (* around 1070 in Augsburg, † April 30, 1127 in Curtea - Regia in Verona ) is a saint in the Catholic Church.

Life

Wolfhard lent itself at a young age the skills of a saddler and then went as a journeyman. In 1096 or 1097 he reached the city of Verona after crossing the Alps. Here he went only a short time after his occupation learned. Who or what has led him to distribute his wealth to poor people, is not known. The people liked him then as a benefactor. After this step, he retired as a hermit in a nearby forest on the Adige, where he spent twenty years of his life. Around the year 1117 to around Wolfhard let the Camaldolese monastery of San Salvatore in Curtea - Regia include a Rekluse in a monastic cell. He died on April 30, 1127 and was buried in the monastery.

Relics

The bones of the saint were later transferred from the convent to the church of San Fermo Maggiore, Verona. Since October 27, 1602, there are relics of Wolfhard in Augsburg. They are kept in the church of St. Sebastian.

Remembrance

On October 27, the Roman Catholic Church commemorates this saint. He is also the patron saint of Sattler.

Wolfhard is represented as a hermit in a river landscape or isolated lying in a stone coffin.
