Band History

Background: From fusion to the Guardian

The band's story began in 1982 with the formation of the band " Fusion", founded by bassist David Bach, singer Paul Cawley, guitarist Gene Thurston and drummer Steve Martinez. Guitarist and drummer by James Isham (guitar) and Rikk Hart ( drums) were replaced, however, soon. The band played melodic metal. In 1984 they released their first EP Rock In Victory. A short time later, guitarist James Isham was replaced by David Caro.

1985 was able to get a record deal with Enigma Records the band. Since there was already a band called fusion at this time, the band renamed itself " Gardian " (without the "u "). Your next EP Voyager appeared in 1987. A year later, guitarist David Caro the band.

This was replaced in 1989 by Tony Palacios. The band added to its name, the "u " to and was called so from now on "Guardian". This year, then appeared also the first album First Watch, produced by Oz Fox, guitarist of " Stryper ". The futuristic elements in their style have been reduced. There was a very intense tour of the United States and Japan. After the end of tour in 1990 singer Paul Cawley and drummer Rikk Hart left the band because they do not clearly came with the tour hardships.

The new cast

For the new album Fire And Love, which was released in late 1990 at Pakaderm Records, a subsidiary label of Word Records, and the secular label Epic Records, the band won the John & Dino Elefante Geschwisterduo as producers. The result is a melodic pop-metal album with light blues influences. The response to the album was overwhelming. The video clip to Power Of Love was a huge success and was played on MTV again. In addition, the closing hymn of the album Never Say Goodbye allowed in any concert missing.

Appeared in 1993, the sophomore Miracle Mile, which is the biggest selling album of "Guardian" today. The sound of this album has become more commercial and reminds sometimes a bit of " Guns N 'Roses ". The trademark of the band but was still Jamie's powerful, gravelly voice. The album quickly conquered the Christian charts and reached the Top Five CCM. The video for the song Shoeshine Johnny also appeared on MTV soon.

However, the band lost some fans who condemned the change of style to modern trends in the strongest and would have preferred to hear another metal opus of "Guardian".

1997 appeared Bottle Rocket, a modern rock album with a little grunge influences. The CD could not build on the past successes. In the same year the second Spanish CD by Guardian came out: Promesa contains ten songs of the band in Spanish.

In 1998 came with The Yellow And Black Attack Is Back! again an EP out, which was very well received by the fans of the old days. On this EP played "Guardian" all the songs from the debut work published in 1984 by " Stryper " - The Yellow And Back Attack - new one, and the 80's quite the typical glam metal style. So it was little changed against the originals. The CD was recorded and independently marketed and the support was very limited.
