Gudniki ( German Gudnick ) is a village in Poland, in the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship in powiat Kętrzyński.

Geography

Geographical location

The village in the municipality Korsze ( Korschen ) is located about seven kilometers south of Korsze. The border with the Kaliningrad Oblast runs about 25 kilometers north of Gudniki.

History

The village was laid out probably mentioned in 1340 and 1427 as Godenick. The name is derived from the Old Prussian word " gudde " ( bushes, bushes ). In the second half of the 14th century, the brick church and residential buildings were built of stone then probably. The houses were rebuilt in 1731.

Until 1528, the village belonged to the parish Rößel, then to Łankiejmy.

1970, there were in the village primary school and a small library. As in 1972, the Gromadas were dissolved Gudniki was part of the Schulz Office Babieniec ( Babziens ) in the municipality Korsze. Through a total Polish administration reform the village came 1975 on the Olsztyn Voivodeship, following its dissolution Gudniki from 1999 served as part of the Warmia - Mazury.

Population Development

1785 were counted in the village of 23 residential buildings. 1817 there were 26 houses with 226 inhabitants. The 1939 census showed 223 inhabitants, in 1970 there were 100

Culture and sights

Worth seeing is the church of the 14th century. The first written record dates from 1483. The eastern part of the church is younger than the western part, and dated to the 15th century. 1626 of the altar nor was erected. In the years 1731-1733 the church was extensively restored. The south porch was built, the curly pediment attached to the sacristy, the renewed Eastern and partly the west gable and built the wooden tower stump. Further restorations took place in the years 1855, 1905 and 1924, which is noted on the east gable. 1656 Today's pulpit was installed, the sound blanket the pulpit with their figures followed in 1740. Four years later, the organ loft was built. 1927, the windows were widened. The popular painting of the inner beam ceiling was made in 1744 by Johann Jerusalem from Friedland.

Another attraction is the grave slab of red marble for the Swedish doctor Johan Bernard Varnbagen. Dating back to 1647 plate is located on the south side of the church.

There is also a war memorial to the fallen of the First World War. The monument bears the inscription Holy is the memory of the gefalen (sic) Among these are the names of 17 fallen soldiers.

There is a cemetery chapel, which dates from the 18th century to the voivodeship road 590. Here are the resting places of the family of the Groeben, the owners of the goods Łankiejmy (long- home ).

The cemetery is located in the southern part of the village on a small slope. He is partially surrounded by a wall. The oldest graves are those of the Ziegler family and the cross for F. Mulniera a royal ways builder.

Traffic

By Gudniki the voivodship road leads 590 ( droga wojewódzka 590) of Barciany ( baleen ) to Biskupiec ( Bishop's Castle ). About eight kilometers north of the village lies Korsze, the next station.

The nearest international airport is about 90 kilometers north of Kaliningrad airport, but located on Russian territory. On Polish territory of about 170 kilometers west located Lech Walesa Gdansk Airport is the nearest international airport. The airport Szczytno - Szymany is located about 60 kilometers south of Gudniki, but only in the summer months in operation.
