Guillem de Copons

Guillem de Copons (* in the 14th century; † in the 15th century ) was a writer and diplomat. Maybe it was the Valencian origin. He made some translations into Catalan of some important works of ancient Greece, ancient Rome and the European Middle Ages.

He was hostler of Kings Peter IV and John I. They commissioned him with some literary tasks. He also had a relationship with the Lord Master of the Knights Juan Fernández de Heredia. 1383 he brought King John I commissioned by the Duke of Berry, a French version of the De Civitate Dei of Augustine. He was sent back to visit this duke by the king in order to achieve a copy of the manuscript of the French version of Ab urbe condita Livy. The Catalan from these French versions then made ​​translations have been attributed to him. 1396 sent the Queen Violante of Bar him as ambassador to the papal court in Avignon and also some French nobles to explore the threats of invasion of Catalonia by the Duke of Armagnac. However, this was in vain as the King John I died. In 1418 he dedicated to the Valencian patrons Pere d' Artés its Catalan version from the Treasure of Brunetto Latini. This work was written in French and already included the ethics of Aristotle. Although this version was not right, it was then the first Catalan version of this classic writer.
