Guillermo Deisler

Guillermo Deisler (* June 15, 1940 in Santiago de Chile, † October 21, 1995 in Halle ( Saale) ) was a Chilean- German stage designer, Mail Artist and author of visual poetry.

Life

Guillermo Deisler was born into a family originating from Prussia in Chile. He studied theater and stage graphics at the University of Santiago de Chile. From 1967 to 1973 he was assistant and lecturer in graphic design at the " Universidad de Chile " in Antofagasta. After the military coup on September 11, 1973, he was arrested and interned in prison in Antofagasta. His friend Gregorio Berchenko procured, that he got from the French embassy for an exit visa. After he had spent some months in exile in France, he realized that there was no livelihood in France for him and his family. He decided, like so many other Chilean refugees to enter the GDR. There he was immediately detained and interrogated until a director who knew him as a stage, reached a release from prison in Cottbus. After his detention, he was involved in a theater production of this director as a set designer, before he was " exiled to Bulgaria " as a quota refugee, under an agreement between the GDR, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and other socialist states. Deisler lived there with his wife and four children common to 1986. 1986 he came and part of his family back in the GDR. Shortly before their political end he received the desired of him citizenship. Deisler lived up to his early death in Halle / Saale, where he worked at the Opera House.

He died in 1995 from the effects of cancer. Its more than 5,000 mail art works comprehensive collection is now in the archive of the art collection of the Academy of Arts in Berlin.

Work

Guillermo Deisler employed all his life with intense experimental and visual poetry. 1963 to 1973 he gave the periodical poetry and graphic " mimbre " out in more than 50 titles. Among them were international anthologies of visual poetry. In 1987 he founded the artists and Mail Art Project " UNI / vers ( ;)", which he led until his death in 1995 and appeared in a total of 35 numbers ( each number consisted of a binder of original prints by international artists ). In 1988 he organized with Karla axis of the exhibition " Visual Poetry ," to which also appeared a catalog. Two years later, coinciding with the end of the GDR, he was together with Jörg Kowalski the anthology " word picture. Visual poetry in ddr " out. Therein are works of, among others, Carl Friedrich Claus, Volker Dietzel, Elke Erb, Lutz Fleischer, Joseph W. In all countries that were stages of his life, Deisler (1977 were original graphic artist books in runs of three to about 50 copies out, including " GRRR " (1969 Chile ), le " cerveaux " (1975 in France) "packaging poetry" in Bulgaria) and "make-up " (1988 in the GDR ).

Exhibitions

Deisler work was honored to become once again about 15 years after his death, such as in the context of the exhibition Subversive Practices. Art under Conditions of Political Repression in the Württemberg Kunstverein Stuttgart 2009. A solo exhibition Homenaje a Guillermo Deisler. Graphics, collage, painting, book objects found in the summer of 2009 in the Chilean Embassy in Berlin. The exhibition Guillermo Deisler (1940-1995): For the theater ... Figurines, stage designs, poster designs, among other things was shown at the Art Association Gallery Halle Opera 2010.
