Guillermo Sepúlveda

Guillermo Sepúlveda Rodríguez ( born February 28, 1934 in Guadalajara, Jalisco ) is a former Mexican football player and an outstanding central defender, who celebrated his greatest successes with Chivas Guadalajara. He was part of the legendary team, the 1957-1965 Mexican champion seven times in nine years and was given the nickname " Campeonísimo ". He was also known by his nickname " El Tigre " ( The Tiger).

Career

His career began in 1952 at Club Atlas, but most of the time he played for Chivas, with whom he celebrated his greatest successes. 1966 he moved to the Jabatos de Nuevo León and in 1968 the return to Guadalajara for Club Oro.

Sepúlveda was a player who is struck by his uncompromising commitment and fighting spirit. He gave the defensive stability and support and was considered one of the most charismatic players of his time.

His international debut was on April 28, 1957 in the U.S., where the Mexican selection the host downright outclassed 7-2. In total, he completed 30 internationals. " El Tigre " was nominated for both the 1958 World Cup and for the 1962 World Cup and played a total of five games. Although he was appointed captain of the team before the 1966 World Cup, which traveled to the World Cup to England, he was dismissed on account of disputes before the World Cup on June 12, 1966 from the National squad.
