Günter Mittag

Günter Mittag ( born October 8, 1926 in Stettin, † March 18, 1994 in Berlin), from 1966 until the fall of 1989, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the SED. He was responsible in 1976 as Central Committee secretary of the SED for Economic Affairs of the planned economy of the GDR.

Life

Lunch comes from a working class family. In 1943 he was Luftwaffenhelfer in an anti-aircraft regiment. From 1943 to 1945 completed a training lunch at Deutsche Reichsbahn. 1956 closed lunch from a correspondence course with the title of diploma -Economist Marketers and 1958 at the University of Transportation in Dresden with the work of the superiority of socialist organization and management of the railways in the GDR against the capitalist railways Dr. rer. oec. doctorate.

1945 joined a lunch in the Communist Party and was founded in 1946 by the forced merger of the SPD and KPD member of the SED. In 1947 he became a member of the SED district leadership Greifswald and took in subsequent years regional management positions in fdgb. In 1958 he became Secretary of the Economic Commission at the Politburo. 1962 lunch was a member of the Central Committee. In 1963 he became a member of the People's Chamber, and ( until 1971, then again from 1979 to 1989 ) Member of the Council of State. 1979 to 1989 he was a member of the National Defence Council.

Also in 1963 was head of the office lunch for industrial and construction of the Central Committee. Lunch and Erich Apel designed the new economic system of planning and management ( NÖSPL ), which should modernize and less bureaucratic the economy of the GDR. The concept has been implemented only greatly weakened due to political opposition.

1966 moved to noon in the Politburo. When he Secretary of the Central Committee of Economic Affairs in 1976, its leadership was strengthened in economic policy. Throughout his tenure, he held strictly fixed at a state control of the economy. The highlight of his work was the summary of the VEB in Kombinate 1980.

Lunch was (Head of KoKo and Secretary of State in the GDR Ministry of Foreign Trade ) respected interlocutor of politicians and economic managers of the Federal Republic with Alexander Schalk - Golodkowski. Especially with Franz Josef Strauss, he had close contacts and negotiated in the early 1980s with this so-called " billion credit " of the Federal Republic in the GDR.

In the summer of 1989 he took the place of the nominal deputy Egon Krenz Erich Honecker during which severe disease.

Lunch was a diabetic. He had been amputated mid-1980s, both lower legs.

In December 1989 came lunch in custody, but was soon released on medical parole and retired. In 1991 he was again a charge of use of state funds for private homes. Lunch, however, was declared due to health reasons for not negotiable. The main method was not opened.

Lunch was in 1982 an honorary doctorate from the Tōkai University ( Japan) and the University of Leoben ( Austria ).

His grave is in the cemetery Biesdorf in Berlin -Marzahn.
