Gunter Pauli

Gunter Pauli ( born March 3, 1956 in Antwerp) is an entrepreneur and initiator of The Blue Economy.

Life and work

He is an entrepreneur in various fields. In 1991, he bought 50 % of the bankrupt detergent manufacturer Ecover and built a 100 % ecological office building, which was completed in 1993.

His first book was the biography of Aurelio Peccei, founder of the Club of Rome, whose assistant he was from 1979 to 1984. He has published several books and fairy tales for children that have been translated into 12 languages.

He was elected as an Independent to the European Parliament in 1989, but the seat refused because of business commitments. Gunter Pauli leads as one of his greatest successes, the " Mozarteum Belgicum " as the organization of the "Mozart Year" in Belgium and Japan, for which he was awarded the " Gold Medal of the Province of Salzburg ."

He is also the founder and former president of Worldwatch Europe and recipient of many honors and awards.

In 1994 he was called to the United Nations University in Tokyo to prepare the Kyoto Protocol ( budget of $ 10 million per year over 3 years). There he co - initiated the " Zero Emissions Research Initiative ( Zeri ) " in 1994 in Tokyo, with the support of the Japanese government and the United Nations University (UNU ). End of the 90 years ended his work for the UNU. Zeri was renamed " Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives ". In the further development of those principles, he became the founding father of the Blue Economy.

He built the Zeri Pavilion at Expo 2000 in Hanover, which was the most watched show of the Expo area with 6.4 million visitors.

He now lives with his wife and two children in Cape Town, South Africa.
