Gus Forslund

Oliver Gustav " Gus" Forslund ( born April 25, 1906 in Umeå, † July 29, 1962 in Geraldton, Ontario, Canada ) was a Swedish professional ice hockey player who in his playing days from 1926 to 1941 among others for the Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League has played.

Career

Gustav Forslund emigrated with his family as a child to Canada. There he began his career in Thunder Bay Senior Hockey League in which he was active until 1929 for the Port Arthur ports and Fort William Fort of 1926, where it failed due to an injury during the entire 1928/29 season. Then he succeeded at the Duluth Hornets of the American Hockey Association, for which he was active from 1929 to 1932, the leap into professional hockey. For the 1932/33 season the winger was signed by the Ottawa Senators, for which in 48 games he scored four goals in the National Hockey League and had nine assists. The following season he joined the Syracuse Stars in the International Hockey League, but was released already in December 1933 along with Sparky Vail in exchange for Andy Bellemer to the league rivals Windsor Bulldogs.

From 1934 to 1936 Forslund was ever a year at the Philadelphia Arrows and New Haven Eagles in the Canadian - American Hockey League contract. Then Senior Hockey League, the Swede returned to the Amateur League Thunder Bay, where he ran aground until his retirement in late 1941 for the Fort William Walker, Duluth Zephyrs and Geraldton Gold Miners. In Geraldton, he finally settled down and died there in 1962 at the age of 56 years at the consequences of a brain hemorrhage.
