Gustaf Düben

Gustav ( Gustaf ) Duben (* 1628, † December 19, 1690 ) was a Swedish court conductor, organist and composer in Stockholm ( Sweden).

Life

Gustav Duben was the son of Andreas Düben, an immigrant from Germany, who had been a pupil of Sweelinck and Stockholm in the offices of the court conductor and organist at the German Church St. Gertrud held. In his youth, his father sent him to study in Germany. 1647 Gustav Duben joined the Royal Swedish Court Orchestra a ( Kungliga Hovkapellet ) and followed his father in 1663 in his office, after it had died a year earlier. His two sons, in turn, followed the father in office, Gustav the Younger ( 1690-1698 ) and Anders ( 1698-1726 ). From 1640, he put together an extensive collection of musical works of his time, he had gathered among other trips abroad. This " Dübensammlung " is one of the main sources for the music of the 17th century.

Works

From Düben own musical works, some psalms, arias, choruses and dances have survived, following the North German style of his time.
