Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel

Gustav Hermann Krumbiegel ( born December 18, 1865 in Lohmen, † February 8, 1956 in Bangalore, Karnataka ) was a German botanist and garden designer who was best known as the director of the Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens in Bangalore.

Life and work

After his schooling in Wilsdruff and graduated in Pillnitz Dresden Krumbiegel training in horticulture. In 1884, he worked in management for horticulture and fruit growing in Schwerin. From 1885 to 1887, he worked as a landscape gardener in Hamburg. 1888 moved Krumbiegel to England, where he was first flower beds in Hyde Park designed and 1890-1893 staff at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. He also took courses in the South Kensington School, where he was awarded prizes and certificates for geometry and perspective drawing. 1893 Krumbiegel curator at the Government Botanical Gardens, Udagamandalam. where he was responsible for the architectural redesign and was built fountains, bridges and pavilions.

From 1908 to 1932 Krumbiegel was head gardener and head of the Lal Bagh Botanical Gardens in Bangalore. With the design of the botanical gardens and the investment of avenues he promoted considerably the reputation as a garden city of Bangalore.
