Guy Le Querrec

Guy Le Querrec ( born May 12, 1941 in Paris) is a French photographer and filmmaker who is best known for his photographs of jazz musicians and his images from Africa. He is a member of Magnum Photos.

Life and work

Le Querrec began as a teenager with the photography. He first worked with a Ultraflex that was given to him Christmas 1955 before it a year later than first camera bought a used photax. In 1962 he made ​​a Leica. After military service, he performed together with the Jean -Luc Ponty, he was a professional photographer in 1967; First he worked in a small advertising agency, from 1969 as a photographer and photo editor for Jeune Afrique and made reportages in Chad, Cameroon, Niger and the Central African Republic. In 1976 he was a member of the Magnum Photos agency.

In the late 1970s he began making films together with Robert Bober. In 1983, he led the first time during a concert at the Rencontres d' Arles slides before; which he did later at concerts of the trio Carnet de Routes (Louis Sclavis, Henri Texier, Aldo Romano) more frequently; a book with photos of him from the group tours in Africa was also the three albums the trio. Sclavis, Texier, Michel Portal and Christophe Marguet improvised, 2012 at the Frankfurt Jazz Festival for his paintings.

Le Querrec photographed at numerous festivals, so he gave the appearance of musicians led by Daniel Humair on the JVC Jazz Festival in 1988 fixed (reproduced in the booklet of the CD 9-11 PM Town Hall ). Furthermore, he traveled through Asia and also photographed North American Indians ( held, inter alia, in the booklet of the CD oyate by Tony Hymas ). He has also Villejuif, documented a district of Paris and the Carnation Revolution in Portugal. He also led numerous workshops for photographers by in France.

Prizes and awards

Le Querrec won the 1998 Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris.
