Gwen Verdon

Gwen Verdon origin. Gwyneth Evelyn Verdon ( born January 13, 1925 in Culver City, California, † 18 October 2000 in Woodstock, Vermont) was an American actress and dancer.

Life

Already the mother of Gwen Verdon had been a well-known dancer in his lifetime; her father worked as an electrician at the MGM studios. Despite an early childhood disability - Gwen Verdon suffered from a deformity of the legs - she was six years old the first time on stage.

In 1960 she married the choreographer Bob Fosse; Mid-seventies, the two parted again.

Gwen was a celebrated star on Broadway, among other things, she excelled in the musicals Chicago and Sweet Charity. In one of her last films she starred in Marvin's Room (1996 ), the nutty aunt Ruth of her two nieces Lee Lacker (played by Meryl Streep ) and Bessie (played by Diane Keaton ).

On 18 October 2000, she died of a heart attack. In her honor, one minutes long been dimmed all the lights on Broadway.
